Who we are

Established in 1906, R.J. Christian Ltd is an independent jewellery business based in the market town of Oswestry, Shropshire. Our jewellery business has been in the hands of our family for five generations.

Richard John Christian initially opened the business as an antique shop, which evolved into a jewellery retailer. As time passed on, the shop saw Richard’s son Leslie Christian joining and taking over the reigns from his father.

Peter Humphreys, son-in-law to Leslie, took over the management of the shop in 1956 and not long after, June Williams joined the company. To this day, June is still here working with us, celebrating 60 years working in the shop in 2024.

Brian Morris, husband to Peter’s daughter Janet, began working here in 1986 and became the 4th generation running the shop since 1990. Through his years of experience he has diversified the shop into providing bespoke jewellery, repairs and more.

Two of Peter’s daughters, Lyn and Wendy, worked as “Saturday Girls” at the shop during the 1970’s. Lyn came back permanently in 2005 to add to the family affair.

And as of January 2025, Brian’s son, Joe has joined the family partnership, continuing this tradition into the 5th generation.
